COMMON GROUND ARTS curates and produces site-specific projects for Arts Brookfield. We developed this exhibition with artist Julia Whitney Barnes that played with the large marble walls dominating the lobby of a commercial office building. Interested in the history of stained glass, she designed a multifaceted large-scale installation inspired by the 19th century artist Charles Booth. She photographed Booth’s windows and created her own digital versions, using Booth’s varied themes in different ways and adjusting his traditional palette. Barnes’ artworks, installed throughout the space, create the effect of illuminated stained-glass windows, provide a unique opportunity for viewers to experience the artwork at eye level, and truly transform the lobby into a gallery.
